Null hypothesis
In statistics, a null hypothesis (H0) is a hypothesis which attempts to explain a given set of data. A null hypothesis is tested to determine whether the data provides sufficient evidence to pursue a different alternative hypothesis (HA).
The null hypothesis is never accepted as suspicion always remains over its validity. Failing to reject H0 allows for alternative hypotheses to be developed and tested.
The null hypothesis basically states that there were no differences (no change)between the groups, while the alternative hypothesis states that there were differences (change) between the groups.
A video explaining how the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis work.
